The Düsseldorf artist family Zieseniss

The sculptor Rudolf Zieseniss (1883-1959), who left numerous works in public space, is best known among the Düsseldorf artists. His older brother Heinrich Zieseniss (1881-1966) learned decorative painting in Cologne and also tried his hand at this profession in Düsseldorf. In order to support his family, he joined the police service, where he rose to the rank of detective secretary. During and after the First World War he pursued watercolor painting.

Raimund Zieseniss (*1909), Rudolf's son from his first marriage, became an architect and first worked in Düsseldorf and neighboring Neuss. In the 1970s he moved to Wuppertal, where all trace of him is lost. Heinrich's grandson Wolfgang Zieseniss (*1947) watched his grandfather paint with interest and was instructed by him. He later studied architecture in Berlin and worked as a municipal architect in Kleve. As his retirement approached, he turned his attention to painting, which he still does today.
